Getting to Know the Indies – Ember Moon

So, as of tomorrow night, she will not necessarily be an indie performer anymore, but given that we didn’t really know anything about Ember Moon going into our NXT TakeOver Brooklyn II prediction post, I figured I would do a little research and share what I came up with, because we both just assumed she was a character they’d drawn from Outworld who’d come to engage in Mortal Kombat against Billie Kay.

Meet Adrienne Reese

Ember_Moon

This Garland, Texas (just outside of Dallas) native is probably more commonly known as Athena from her time in Shimmer Women Athletes, Women Superstars Uncensored, and Anarchy Championship Wrestling.  During her time in Anarchy Championship Wrestling, she was a three-time American Joshi Champion (ACW’s version of the Women’s Championship), her third reign lasting 8 months from January-August 2012 before she vacated the title to leave for Shimmer full-time.

Reese is the product of Booker T’s Pro Wrestling Alliance in Houston, so she’s been trained by some pretty talented individuals, including the FIVE TIME WCW CHAMPION himself.

Between 2010 and 2015, Athena would work with Shimmer Women Athletes, competing a number of times for the Shimmer Championship, but never capturing the belt.  She was simultaneously working shows for Women Superstars Uncensored from 2011-2015, where she also had several title attempts but never became champion in the promotion.

In September of 2015, Reese signed with NXT and reported to the Performance Center.  We’ve never really heard of her because she’s only wrestled a few times, once at a live show in October 2015 that wasn’t televised, then she defeated Peyton Royce in a dark match June 8, 2016 at NXT TakeOver: The End (the one with the cage match) where the Ember Moon character was unveiled.

No, I don’t understand the Mortal Kombat look either, but she’s a pretty damn good wrestler, and she’s only going to strengthen the already solid women’s division of NXT and WWE.

Take a look for yourself:

So yeah, she’s pretty damned good, and now I’m eagerly anticipating every match on this card for NXT TakeOver Brooklyn II, Saturday August 20, 2016 from the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, NY where she will take on, and undoubtedly stomp the hell out of, Billie Kay.
