31 Faces of Fear: Abyss

For the month of October, we are going to run through some of our favorite wrestlers that inspire fear in their competitors and fans alike.

In one of the few entries from TNA GFW Impact Wrestling, Abyss is something else.  He’s oneof  two mask-wearing NWA Heavyweight Champions.  That’s a pretty big deal.  He’s the second Grand Slam Champion of the promotion.

If he reminds you a bit of Kane, I wouldn’t be surprised.  He even appears occasionally as Joseph Park, Esq., his straight-laced brother/split personality of Abyss.  To me, it seems like a Kane/Corporate Kane situation.

Finally, he’s the master of the “Monster’s Ball” match.  It’s probably one of the more ridiculous matches that I’ve heard of.  The key premise of the match was that all contenders are sequestered alone in a locked room without light, food or water for twenty-four hours before the match. You can’t make this stuff up.  For that alone, he deserves to be on this list.  Apparently, now it’s just a streetfight and they’ve forgotten about the locked room business.

Oh, and did I mention his friend “Janice”?  Janice is simply a 2×4 with nails embedded.

Here’s a Barbwire Massacre Match from 2008:

DECAY

This post wouldn’t be complete without mentioning Decay.

I’ve always heard of Abyss but I really took note of him when he joined with Rosemary and Crazzy Steve to form Decay.  Between the Broken Hardys and Decay, it was the only reason I turned on Impact Wrestling in 2016.  Decay is super creepy.  If you search YouTube, you’ll find a lot of disturbing stuff.  I’ll leave that to you.  Instead, let’s just see one of their entrances:
