31 Faces of Fear: Waylon Mercy

For the month of October, we are going to run through some of our favorite wrestlers that inspire fear in their competitors and fans alike.

Clearly a blueprint for the original incarnation of Bray Wyatt, this mild-mannered wrestler was actually inspired by the Max Cady character in the 1991 remake of Cape Fear.  I also see a little bit of Buffalo Bill in there as well.  His delivery is calm, clear, and eerie.  Before his matches, he would shake the hands of his competition and the referee.  He was super polite.  Once the bell rang, he was ruthless and fierce.  After all, he doesn’t like to be touched and wants this over as soon as possible.

Waylon got injured and was forced to retire in 1995 due to injury, after being in the company for less than a year.  Just think how scary he would be if he stuck around.
